So one of my good friends in the internship, Shana, came up with the term internshipitis. Basically it is the same as senioritis it just affects interns. I am definitely feeling this right now. I am 3 days away from being done with my 1200 hours needed for this internship and I am so exhausted. I am loving the NICU and all the babies but getting there in the morning in traffic makes for early mornings.
I know right not I should be sleeping or finishing up this essay I need to turn in to my preceptor tomorrow but writing here seemed like such a better idea (see there's the internshipitis). I have all my papers completed and my portfolio is put together. All that is left is to confirm I completed the three exams and take my final on Monday morning. It seems so crazy.
We just found out about a graduation type ceremony they have every year for interns and other students who work with the PVAMU extension. This is on Friday, May 11. It will be a nice way to finish out the internship and feel like there is a close to the chapter. I also cannot believe that in 9 days I will be 23...wow kinda makes me feel old. Anyway, I should get back to my work so I can get to sleep and be awake for the day tomorrow.
10 days until the road trip home!

Almost There
So I am now 2 weeks from moving home. I feel like there is so much I still need to do. Pack, study, clean, and enjoy Houston. I am very excited to start this last week because I get to work with the neonatal dietitian and see a different side of the job. I am just going to work, studying, and getting ready for the big move. I know this is very short but I should get back to my chores.
See everyone soon!

Last Rotation
So today I started my staffing rotation. This is my last two weeks of the internship and I am doing them at the hospital. Thinking about it I cannot believe I am this close. I have been trying to pack and study in all my spare time. Getting everything done these last 3 weeks and all packed maybe stressful but I know I can get it all done.
yesterday I was at the big health fair I helped plan 6 weeks ago and it was a success. I had such a good time seeing all the things they had prepared and seeing all the kids come through. It was a long day but it got me 11 more hours for my internship which I needed.
I am also very excited because I finally get my iPhone in 2 weeks!!!! I have been waiting for it since December. Well I am back to my studying and being serious about these last 3 weeks.
See you all soon!!!!

One Month From Today
So there is exactly 1 month until I move home. This time in May Eric and I will be (hopefully) 6 hours into our drive back. I have started the slow job of packing and sending things home so everything will fit in the car. I have one week left at Head Start which is like preschool. This was a short rotation because it is only two weeks long. This week I get to go to San Antonio with the dietitians for a food show and I am SO excited. Yes I won't be able to see all of San Antonio but at least I get to travel to a different part of Texas.
After next week I have two weeks at the hospital, one with neonatal and one back with a dietitian I worked with last time I was there. I have learned so much in these past 9 months and have met a lot of great people . I cannot believe I am so close to being done.
The last week I will be finishing up the packing and taking my final exam. We also have a little ceremony type thing where we turn in all of our paperwork and ensure that all papers are signed. Then Eric gets here Thursday of that week. We will spend my birthday in Houston visiting anywhere I may have missed since moving here. Then Sunday we wake up early to start the drive back to Illinois. These last 3 weeks will be stressful but definitely worth it. Miss everyone!

It's Almost Spring Break
There are only 6 more days until Eric gets here for Spring Break and I am SO excited. I just finished my first community rotation on Friday and I learned a lot. I have to go back on April 22 to the gym I was at and work at the health fair I helped plan. I am pretty excited for this because I did 4 weeks of work on it. This weekend I am trying to get the apartment cleaned and as much class work as I can before Friday.
I have been making a list of all of the things that Eric and I have to do while he visits. Next week on Saturday we get to go to the Rodeo and see Brad Paisley which I am so excited for. On Monday I start at the health department with WIC. I am hoping to learn a lot there and get good experiences. I already have my schedule for the whole 4 weeks I am there so it should be good.
Nothing else is new down here. It is warm one day and colder the next. Since Thursday it has been raining and it is supposed to rain the rest of the weekend. I have started studying for my big exam and I think the flash cards really are helping. Well back to work and studying. Miss and love everyone!

I love March
So the weather has been amazing lately. I say this and know that it could go back to rainy and 50 tomorrow. I know I have been slacking in the posting but since my last post a lot has been happening. My parents came two weeks ago to spend the weekend. We had so much fun. Obviously we did a lot of shopping and sightseeing. I got my first pair of cowboy boots and they are amazing. We went to some good places to eat and just spent time together. It was a great weekend.
Last weekend I was working all weekend and I ended up getting sick. That was miserable and I am hoping it is gone for good now. This weather going up and down kicked my butt. I am now at my first community rotation which is with a private consulting firm. I am working with a gymnastics center and helping them prepare a health and fitness fair in April. I also worked on another fair for an HR firm and that was pretty exciting. This is not my favorite rotation. I feel like I don't do as much and there isn't a lot of one on one work which I actually like because it is easy for me to learn from. One more week here and I get to move on. In April I will come back and volunteer at the fair the whole day which should be fun. This is great because it is an extra 10 hours I can claim.
March 12 I get to start at the Houston Department of Health and Human Services with WIC. I am actually looking forward to this. I think it will be a lot of fun and I will hopefully learn a lot about the community side of dietetics. There is another reason I am ready to start there...that is the week Eric comes to visit.
He will be here in 2 weeks for Spring Break and I am so excited. We already have a million things we want to do but the biggest one is the Rodeo. It is on St. Patrick's Day and we are seeing Brad Paisley. I am so excited. I am working extra hard these next two weeks to get all of my class work done so that when he gets here we can just spend time together and do all the fun things we have planned.
I also got my review flash cards for the big exam. There are over 600 and I am slowly starting to study. Hopefully by May I will know them all and can take the exit exam and be ready for the big exam when I am eligible.
I miss everyone back home but I'm in the home stretch. In 9 weeks I will be packing up to move back to Illinois. Miss and love everyone!

Real World...
So last weekend was the greatest weekend. I surprised Eric by flying home for his birthday. The look on his face when I was standing there waiting for him and it wasn't his uncle was incredible. He was shocked and surprised. I even got to see my snow which made it even better. Eric and I had an amazing weekend. We went out to dinner with his family and the food was amazing. We went and saw a movie, got Steak N Shake, and went to the casino. The rest of the weekend we just hung out and watched movies. I think it was a pretty successful surprise trip and he was happy because he didn't have the dentist appointment his parents told him he had.
Now this week is over and I had my first week at the dialysis center. I actually really like it. The dietitian I am working with is younger and has given me a lot of advice and information so far. I look forward to learning even more and then transitioning to community for the remainder of my internship.
I am preparing because my parents will be here in 3 weeks and I want to have a really fun weekend. Shopping is definitely on the top of my list and maybe even a trip to Memorial Park. I know they are just as excited as I am. After that I will get back into the rotations at the food bank and the health department. One month after my parents come, Eric will come for his Spring Break trip and that will be amazing too. We have rodeo tickets and hopefully a day down at the beach.
Well right now my big thing is getting all my internship work done and I have started to look for jobs. I found a few in the Chicago land area and I will be sending out my resume and application to see if maybe somewhere will want me and will be willing to wait until May to hire me. And who knows if an opportunity opens I may be making a random trip to Chicago for the weekend.
Love and miss you all!
